Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical practice originating over 5000 years ago.

Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate specific points on the body, which elicit a response to move energy, blood and fluid to various systems of the body. Acupuncture is intended to alleviate pain and promote general health and wellbeing. It is useful in both acute and chronic conditions.

Acupuncture points are selected based on your individual health condition. The skin is swabbed with alcohol and clean, sterile, non-reusable needles are inserted into the body at a therapeutically stimulating, yet comfortable depth to the patient. Common sensations include an ache, dull, heavy or tired feeling locally or distally to the area of the inserted needle. Needles are not meant to be painful and can easily be removed if requested.

Generally, acupuncture treatments require 6 to 8 sessions to help correct the underlying imbalance, but may require more depending on the severity and duration of your condition. Visits range from 30-45 minutes in length and typically need to be performed weekly in order to see the best results. Later treatments can be spaced out to bi-weekly or monthly depending on your progress.
